Mid Century Suburban

Being sympathetic to the origins of this 40 year old flat roofed modernist suburban home, this project used Australian made furniture, lighting and art. The wood lined ceilings, large windows and painted bricks were enhanced by the choice of natural and varied products for the bedroom of a professional couple.

I wanted to ensure that the room captured the feeling my client wanted; relaxing, grown up but not precious. The room had to function as their bedroom and the form needed to reflect the timeless and contemporary style they were after.

It was also important to consider the neighbourhood. The area has an interesting and unique history. In the 1960's, nearby Robin Boyd display homes were built to create the feeling of a new utopia; a new modern Australian way to live. I wanted to capture a subtle nostalgia with the use of sympathetic Australian furniture.

What People Are Saying

“When I wanted to totally overhaul my 20-year old bedroom, I needed not only some design inspiration, but also some considered thought to ensure a cohesive addition to my contemporary home. The process from start to finish was extremely easy, with Katie quickly understanding the objective of the project, and offering some fabulous options – with most being produced in Australia. The icing on the cake is that she co-ordinated multiple suppliers to ensure delivery all one morning – and didn’t leave until the room was complete, including new art hung on the walls.”
