Katie Riddell’s introduction to her clients was not in the typical interior decorator way. They approached her before they had a property to decorate!

“They were wanting to buy an apartment for family members in inner city Melbourne. As they were from Queensland, they didn’t have the time or knowledge of the area. So I introduced them to a buyer’s advocate that I knew, and the rest is history!

At the first meeting with her clients, interior decorator Katie Riddell was talking to them about their interests. “It was obvious they loved nature given that their home is located in in the verdant Dandenong Ranges. As we spoke, my client remembered how much she enjoyed hiking and being outdoors. That helped spark the design direction of the home.”

“Downsizing is quite a personal process, and when someone comes to me to help them achieve their goals, I always feel quite honoured that they trust me,” says Ms Riddell.

BOOST PRODUCTIVITY “….Riddell has similarly observed the power of deep blues for promoting an engaging work environment. “Recently, I’ve used blue on the background walls for my husband’s Zoom calls,” she says. “He said that his clients and colleagues have commented that the colour blue is calming, and it has drawn them in to engage with the conversation.”

SET THE MOOD “…..Interior decorator Katie Riddell’s favourite mood-enhancing colours are violet – “Generally associated with spirituality and can be a calm colour,” she says – soothing and nurturing shades of soft pink, and happy and friendly yellow.”
